As Counsel …

JurisJosephson, PC is guided and helmed by Daniel M. Josephson – whose listeners and closest Clients call “Dan” – and who is tremendously proud of the impact that he’s made on people by providing quality legal services and exceptional (neither “traditional” nor simply “customary”) Client service.

Why Listen?

The goal of JurisJosephson, PC is to provide personal attention to the entire Client issue, problem or dispute. When listening to a Client, JurisJosephson is much more interested in YOUR experience, account, story and truth than in creating a narrative for trial. But JurisJosephson is also adept at understanding that experience, account, story and truth from as many angles as possible, in preparation for trial.

How Experienced?

Having first worked for a frozen yogurt vendor as a 14-year-old, Dan parlayed the experience into a deal to get hired by a marketing company before the age of 15. Since then, he has worked for Creative Artists Agency, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Randstad, among others, gaining years of high-level business experience. Having worked as a litigator and transactional attorney for 18+ years since then, he now helps small businesses manage risk exposure and address both unanticipated and, unfortunately, sometimes expected, disputes.

Background

Dan has made numerous appearances in various state and federal courts, successfully advocating for his Clients’ interests.

Never one to be constrained by convention, Dan attended the prestigious Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences before enrolling at West Los Angeles College in Culver City, California at the age of 16. At West Los Angeles College, he became the youngest Associated Students Organization President in the school’s history and was elected as a Vice Chair for the California Student Association of Community Colleges, a proving ground for many elected leaders currently serving the State of California.

Dan began his professional career as a writer and television producer, developing documentary and educational programs for Discovery Communications and Schlessinger Media, including Vegas Challenge, Vegas Cops and Life Science in Action. Dan also spent considerable time on film production sets, including those of the legendary director Blake Edwards. From there, Dan worked with Creative Artists Agency, assisting in the packaging of film projects featuring prominent writers, directors and actors.

Dan received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree from Boston University, majoring in Psychology and graduating summa cum laude, with distinction. While at Boston University, Dan served in student government, where he co-founded the Abortion & Reproductive Rights Coalition and was awarded the prestigious Scarlet Key for Leadership. He also received the Saturn Award for Exceptional Accomplishment in Teamwork. He was further recognized for his exceptional scholastic achievement in clinical mental health care, earning the celebrated Boston University Psychology Department Scholar Award following the publication of his thesis, The Motion Picture as a Tool in Psychotherapy: A Survey of Psychotherapists.

In addition to working as a television producer, Dan also has been a mental health counselor in Boston, Massachusetts and San Diego, California, a customer service manager for a prominent Los Angeles–based graphic printing company, a proofreader and compositor of public company financial reports, a human resources manager, and an assistant in the Tax & Legal Services Departments of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he gained invaluable experience and exposure to the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (a U.S. federal law that set requirements for all U.S. public company boards, management & public accounting firms, including destruction of evidence to impede federal investigations). In each of these roles, Dan developed a deep and enduring understanding of business operations, business development, labor and employment management, human resources and finance.

Dan started his legal career when he enrolled at Chapman University School of Law. There, he was a finalist and member of the Appellate Moot Court Board, an Editor for the school’s Nexus Law Journal, a Student Bar Association representative for three years, co-founder of the Entertainment & Sports Law Society, the Chapman Sibs mentoring program and recipient of five CALI Awards.

During law school, Dan conducted research for Chapman University Law School’s Center for Global Trade and Development and served as an intern at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, where he defended the interests of indigent and mentally ill clients.

For nearly two decades, Dan’s practice has included trial litigation for two boutique law firms, Ulwelling Siddiqui, LLP and Siddiqui Law, APC. Working with numerous associates, partners and co-counsel, including former engineers, performers and others, through mutual tutelage, Dan has learned to manage conflict, both inside and outside of the courtroom effectively.

Dan has been a member of several professional and legal associations, including the Orange County Bar Association, the Employment Law Section of the State Bar of California and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Golden Key National Honor Society and the Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society.

Dan combines his multifaceted practice with a rare combination of impressive academic credentials and street smarts that continue to inform his zealous Client advocacy each day. Among other accomplishments, he has defended, prosecuted and coordinated qui tam (class action-type) cases; prosecuted and defended intellectual property; copyright ©, and trademark ® actions; prosecuted and defended civil rights cases; defended legal malpractice claims; defended criminal defendants; prosecuted civil harassment claims; prepared numerous partnership, shareholder and joint venture agreements, CC&Rs and financial instruments, and established and maintained corporation and limited liability company filings for a wide variety of individual and entity Clients, across a broad range of industries.

In addition to being an experienced state and federal court trial attorney, Dan has practiced before the California Gaming Commission, the Los Angeles Police Commission, the California Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board, the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, the California Labor Commissioner, and the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, among many other adjudicative and administrative bodies at various city, county, state and federal levels.
